Celebrate Pickup Basketball

Can we play together, both locally and through the network?

We’ll find out again on June 8, 2011!

In the first two years the answer was a resounding YES! On June 10, 2009, hundreds of players in 7 different countries around the world (Canada, USA, China, Poland, Uruguay, Macedonia and Italy) played in the first-ever Global Village Basketball game. They networked the scores of their pickup basketball games through the internet to collectively tally over 2,300 baskets. The game continued in 2010, and this year marks the third annual event.

In the inaugural game there were players as young as 4 and as old as 60-something, men and women, girls and boys, of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and of differently-abled bodies and skill levels. Everyone imagined participating in a bigger event.

The third Global Village Basketball game will take place on June 8, 2011, wherever you play pickup basketball. The game is free to join. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is, just that you enjoy moving your athletic body with friends–let’s grow this event!

In the meantime you can download printable instructions, or view an introductory video made prior to the inaugural event in 2009 explaining how the game works.
